Portishead Profile
Portishead are a English trip hop music group from Bristol, currently consisting of singer-songwriter Beth Gibbons, guitarist Adrian Utley and multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow.
The group shot to prominence with the release of their debut album Dummy in 1994. It reached number two on the UK Albums Chart and produced the singles Numb, Sour Times and Glory Box. It also earned won the group the 1995 Mercury Prize. Next came 1997’s Portishead, which also reached number two in the UK and produced the Top 10 hit All Mine, as well as the singles Over and Only You.
The group didn’t release another album for over a decade, finally returning in April 2008 with their third studio album Third. It was critically acclaimed, again reaching number two in the UK and also number seven in the US. It has produced three singles to date: Machine Gun, The Rip and Magic Doors.
