Akon Profile

Akon Akon is an R&B singer-songwriter, rapper and record producer. Born Aliaune Damala Akon Thiam, Akon grew up in Senegal before moving to the USA and discovering hip hop. He began writing and recording songs in his home studio, and his unique West-African/East Coast sound led to him being signed up by SRC/Universal.


His first album Trouble was a huge success, producing the hits Lonely, Locked Up, Ghetto, Belly Dancer (Bananza) and Pot of Gold. Two years later he released the Grammy nominated album Konvicted with the Top 10 singles Smack That (ft. Eminem), I Wanna F**k You (ft. Snoop Dogg), Don\'t Matter and Sorry Blame It on Me. Then, in December 2008, came the album Freedom and the songs Right Now (Na Na Na), I\'m So Paid and Beautiful.


Akon\'s fourth album, Stadium, is due to be released in late 2010.
